Brighton and Hove Albion are hopeful that they will remain the club where Kaoru Mitoma ply’s his trade, despite reported Spurs interest.

Brighton are confident of retaining Mitoma at the American Express Stadium ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Mitoma enjoyed a widely successful breakout year with Brighton last season scoring 10 goals in all competitions and regularly giving his opponents nightmares with his silky dribbling.

The Japanese international also provided eight assists and was a huge player in The Seagulls Europa League qualification.

His wonderful displays on the left wing allowed the loss of Leo Trossard to be minimal with many thinking it was an improvement.

His performances caught the eye of multiple big Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Manchester City and Newcastle along with Tottenham.

Spurs’ interest in Mitoma

Spurs were among the clubs looking to acquire Mitoma, according to Sussex World, this summer with a potential Son Heung-min exit on the cards.

Rumours are only intensified due to Ange Postecoglu’s stated admiration for Mitoma. He actually attempted to sign the Japan star when he was still managing Celtic.

“Yeah, I tried to get him but it was already almost done for him to go to Brighton,” Postecoglu added, “Mitoma would have been a good signing but unfortunately for us, Brighton also have a very good scouting network.

“They managed to pick him up but there was never any doubt in my mind that he was another one who was going to be a top player.”

He concluded by adding, “He’s done really well down there, which hasn’t surprised me.”

This explains why Spurs might be looking at bringing Mitoma to London. He is however a player who Brighton will be desperate not to sell.

This sentiment is emphasised by Roberto Di Zerbi who insists, “Mitoma is one of the best players in Brighton,”.
