Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month for August.

Confirmed on the Premier League’s official Twitter account, Mitoma has been in excellent form so far for the Seagulls, scoring once and assisting twice in three games in August as Brighton beat Wolves and Luton, and lost to West Ham.

Mitoma has also been nominated for Goal of the Month too, with his amazing solo effort against Wolves where he took the ball past multiple opposition from near the halfway line before calmly finishing in the bottom right corner also getting some recognition.

The Japanese international has been nominated alongside Manchester City midfielder Rodri, Tottenham midfielder James Maddison, Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo, Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi and West Ham United winger Jarrod Bowen.

Should Brighton give Mitoma a new contract?

Mitoma has been an important player for Brighton since breaking through last season, spending the season before on loan at Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium after signing from Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale.

His form will no doubt push Brighton to tie him down to a new contract sooner rather than later, after it was reported last month that he is close to signing a new deal on the south coast.

Mitoma’s current deal expires in 2025, and he has a host of admirers, with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal being linked in the past.

Brighton are known to be a selling club, but with the club playing in the Europa League this season, they will want to tie down some of their key assets as they will need plenty of depth if they are to continue playing in Europe beyond this season.
