Former Scotland international Pat Kevin believes Billy Gilmour is good enough to be at Manchester City right now.
The 22-year-old joined Brighton last summer having failed to cement himself at Chelsea where he broke through in 2019. Gilmour spent the 2021-22 season on-loan at Norwich where he struggled but was a bright light in a poor team.
Brighton clearly thought they could get the best from him though, spending £9million on him last summer. However in year one on the South Coast, Gilmour made just 17 appearances however had began to play more as the season drew to a close.

He likely now expects more game time next season with Alexis Mac Allister leaving for Liverpool, while Moises Caicedo is the subject of £100m interest from Chelsea.
Brighton therefore will be hopeful that Gilmour can be the next young star to establish himself at the club, with James Milner and Mahmoud Dahoud joining him in the midfield department.
Gilmour could start for Manchester City
Despite being a massive talent, Gilmour has yet to show himself to be top level ready. But despite that Pat Kevin thinks he could easily slot into Pep Guardiola’s midfield.
SussexLive reported that Nevin said, “Gilmour is a world-class footballer. He could sit in the Man City midfield and be fine because he is good enough for them.
“I think Gilmour will go on to have a good career at Brighton though, it is a good place for him.”
Nevin, who made 242 apperances for Chelsea, recalls being surprised that the Blues sold Gilmour. He said, “I was thinking when Chelsea sold him, ‘what are you doing?’.”
It will be interesting to see now if Gilmour can kick on and establish himself as the talent he has always had this season.
