Brighton are set to compete in Europe for the first ever time this season, following their impressive 2022-23 season.

When Graham Potter departed last season for Chelsea, many thought Brighton could sink back to where they were when he found them.

However the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi saw them rise to heights previously unprecedented at this club.

Within no time it became apparent that bid things were possible under the talented Italian.

His tactical nous added to the seemingly endless list of talent within the squad, meant he and his side were able to achieve Brighton’s highest ever league finish.

This also means that they secured Europa League football thanks to their sixth place finish.

Having arguably strengthened this summer, and with incredible depth, Brighton could be targeting European glory, one player definitely is anyway.

Dunk aims high for Europa campaign

If we are to achieve success at a European level, the mentality will be key in making it happen.

Therefore it was great to hear captain Lewis Dunk expressing the mentality required in an interview with Sky Sports yesterday.

Dunk revealed he and the squad are there to win, not to make up the numbers.

“We’re in it to win it, why not?” Dunk explained.

He continued, “We’re a good team, we believe we can beat anyone when we’re on our day, so we’ll see how far we can get.

“Hopefully I’ll be there lifting it at the end of the season.”

With a captain who is so ambitious, it would be silly to write this Brighton side off, with so much quality too.

Let’s hope this is a good omen for the season and we can get far in the Europa League.
