Brighton and Hove Albion youngster Michal Karbownik has permanently moved to Hertha Berlin after three years at the club.

The ‘talented‘ 22-year-old only made two appearances for the club since his arrival from Legia Warsaw in October 2020.

Karbownik, a Golden Boy nominee in 2020, spent last season on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf in Bundesliga 2 making 27 starts, with one goal and five assists from right-back.

The move for the former Poland U21 international allows him to get crucial minutes this season, ahead of the EURO 2024 campaign next summer.

What next for Michal Karbownik?

It is safe to say that Karbownik’s time at the Seagulls didn’t exactly go to plan, with three loan spells and only two first-team appearances.

However, a player is in there, as reflected by his Golden Boy nomination.

The Pole needs a settled place to call his home, with Hertha Berlin presenting a great opportunity for the 22-year-old.

Hertha suffered relegation to the second tier of German football, with Karbownik having the chance to become an instant hero helping The Old Lady make an immediate return to the Bundesliga.

Upon the completion of his move, Brighton’s Technical Director David Weir said, “Michal enjoyed his time with Fortuna Dusseldorf last season and this move gives him the option of regular senior football. We wish him the best of luck for the future.”
