Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo has completed his British transfer record move to Chelsea.

According to Sky Sports, Caicedo will join the Blues for £100 million upfront with £15 million in performance-related add-ons, making it a British transfer record fee.

Caicedo arrived at Chelsea’s training ground on Monday morning and had his medical completed by lunchtime, ahead of signing an eight-year-deal through to 2031, along with the option to extend it for a further year to 2032.

The Seagulls are also said to have a ‘significant’ sell-on clause in the deal.

The Ecuadorian was also subject of interest of Liverpool, who bid £111 million, but Caicedo turned them down in favour of a move to London.

Can Brighton replace Moises Caicedo?

Caicedo joined Brighton in February 2021, joining from Independiente in his come country. He spent the 21/22 season out on loan in Belgium at Beerschot. He was then a regular for Brighton, playing in all but one game in the Premier League last season.

The 21-year-old is now set to leave the south coast, but Brighton will need to do what they do best and replace him.

Brighton have a very well-known scouting network, where they usually sign players from smaller countries and leagues, paying very low transfer fees for them and then ending up selling them on for big profits, Caicedo being the prime example of this.

Now that everyone knows how much Brighton will have to spend on a replacement, they may find it a little more difficult this time around to sign players. They have already been linked with a replacement however, in Lille midfielder Carlos Baleba, who they have reportedly made a bid for already.
