‘I don’t think’: Guardiola rules out loan move for Brighton target, but suggests they could sell

Pep Guardiola spoke following his sides penalty win over Sevilla last night, and gave Brighton a potential Cole Palmer transfer boost.

Brighton were at one point this window ‘leading the race’ to sign one of the Etihad’s best prospects in Cole Palmer.

Back in mid-July, the Metro reported that Brighton led the pack chasing the signature of Palmer, with a loan-move being suggested.

Since then Brighton have lost another midfielder and also have brought in some serious finances.

The sale of Moises Caicedo has given the coffers at the American Express Stadium a massive boost, which could make previously unattainable targets, attainable.

Guardiola hints at permanent departure

Speaking about Palmer after the Super Cup win, Pep Guardiola told press that a loan won’t happen, and he will either stay or be sold.

“When I arrived he wanted to leave,” Guardiola explained.

Before continuing, “But now I don’t know what’s going to happen, I don’t think a loan is going to happen.

“He is going to stay or we are going to sell, but a loan is not going to happen.”

Brighton could sign Palmer

Given the interest earlier in the window, and the fact Guardiola has practically said Palmer is for sale, don’t be surprised to see the Seagulls make a move.

Signing a talent like Palmer on a permanent deal would be great for Brighton as he is a player with great talent.

Also important to not be put off by City wanting rid, as this is likely more due to their insane transfer policy, which sees Phil Foden and Jack Grealish also struggle to play consistently.

With two goals in two finals this season already, Palmer could be about to catch fire, hopefully Brighton buy-in.
