Brighton chief executive Paul Barber has joked that Evan Ferguson won’t be leaving the Amex anytime soon in a recent interview.

In a summer that has been Brighton lose their two most influential players from last season.

Moises Caicedo, for what is the new record British transfer fee at a staggering £115million to Chelsea.

Joining him in exiting was Alexis Mac Allister for a more modest initial £35m, which could rise to £55m.

These two players were widely speculated to be on the move, but Seagulls fans will be hopeful that they won’t become a feeder club.

They will be hoping some of the stars they are developing will stick around at the club and bring some success to the south coast.

Their next big money prodigy Evan Ferguson however is one who could be set for a few years at the Amex.

At least five years of Ferguson

Brighton club chief Paul Barber has joked that Ferguson won’t be sold anytime soon, speaking with talkSPORT.

In response to being asked, at what point Brighton consider their players future, Barber said: “In Evan’s case, it’ll be in at least five years’ time!

“Ultimately the technical staff are making the key decisions on where a player is in his development, whether he needs more first team games or needs to go on loan or if we need to trade earlier or later.

“It’s a combined effort, it’s a team effort and we’re as much of a team off the pitch as we are on it and Tony and I both believe that we’ve got to work collaboratively and effectively, but ultimately, Roberto De Zerbi is making the big calls when it comes to the playing squad.”

It is no surprised at all, given how brilliant Ferguson is, with 11 goals already for Brighton’s first-team in just 30 appearances.

He has been praised as a ‘born goalscorer’ by Gary Lineker who urged Spurs to make a move for him to replace Harry Kane.

No chance of that happening though thankfully.
