Brighton are interested in signing Atletico Nacional midfielder Jhon Solis.

According to Colombian outlet Caracol, Solis has attracted interest from not only Brighton but also West Ham United.

Both teams are in need of a defensive midfielder, after Brighton sold Moises Caicedo to Chelsea for £115 million, and West Ham sold England midfielder Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105 million.

Both have reportedly ‘entered the bidding’ for the 18-year-old.

When asked by Caracol if Brighton and West Ham had made contact, Solis said: “Yes. Because of the repercussions, it is impossible for me not to notice, my employer tells me and I am focused on what I have to do on the field.”

Caracol go on to say that in the last few hours, a $5 million bid has been made to Nacional, which they have accepted. Solís is continuing to train with his side as he waits for negotiations to progress.

Argentine side Talleres had also shown interest earlier in the window.

Who is Jhon Solis and would he be a good signing?

Jhon Solis is an 18-year old Colombian midfielder, who has represented his nation at under-16 level.

Whilst primarily being a defensive midfielder, he can also play in attacking role and on the right hand side of midfield. He has made 37 appearances for Atletico Nacional so far, getting four assists.

Solis stands at six foot one and carries the ball well. He turns very well, but his long passing may need some work.

This would be yet another master stroke from the Brighton recruitment team, who are known for finding talent from South America amongst other places around the world. This would be another shrewd addition if they were to pull this off. They have also been linked with signing fellow South American midfielder Fabricio Diaz.
